CANADA DAY IN NOVA SCOTIA

We were up early this morning in order to get our flag attached to the motorhome - everyone at the Campground has done something to add a bit of red and white to their site.  This evening there will be activities for the kids and probably fireworks nearby.  We did the quintessential Canadian thing today - visited the Anne Murray Centre in Springhill.  It was a great experience and far from the "self-congrats" it is a lovely representation of the eras of her career.  The music was great, the clothes hilarious and the videos a stroll down memory (what little is left) lane.

Leaving there we stopped at the Miner's Memorial.  Since 1891 there were more than 350 men killed in various accidents at the Springhill Collieries.  Each of the names is written in stone and it is easy to remember that each of these souls had a life, a story, a family like all of us.  So sad to see how much potential was lost.  And then driving out of Springhill on our way back, we passed the town cemeteries where all these men were buried.  Typically these small town cemeteries are a few acres at most but these ones rolled on over the hills almost as far as we could see.  A vivid graphic for the loss this town has endured over the years.

We are able to keep relative peace between the cats by keeping them as far apart from each other as we can. (Which is a challenge with only about 10 sq ft of floor space).   If Nosey is up on the top bunk, Digit is on the dashboard etc.  Otherwise there are great fits of hissing, snarling and many claws-out boxes to the ears.  This morning I caught them in one of their very few and far between cease-fires sharing breakfast and I thought I should record it for posterity.  On occasion, Nosey, having come to the decided that retreat is the better form of valour will retire to his favorite bag for safety.

It's been a great Canada Day and tomorrow we head back to Pugwash for more genealogy.

To be continued.......
